The Oscars come but once a year and the best part is the gossip next day: critiquing the red carpet fashion, who walked away (or didn’t) with awards and who looked down right fabulous….or so unfortunate you know they want to hide under a rock today! I was going to post a totally different topic this morning, but I couldn’t resist making the post for today Oscar-related. Not about who I thought looked the best, although Anne Hathaway looked absolutely stunning, but about an Oscar party that I hosted last night!
Usually when I host a gathering at my apartment, I typically plan and prepare the menu myself. But this weekend I decided to have an impromptu chica-only Oscar party where I asked each of my guests to bring an appetizer related to their favorite nominated movie, and let me just tell you, we had such a fabulous time that I couldn’t wait to share all the details!
Thanks to my absolute favorite invitation website, Paperless Post, I was able to create the perfect invite to quickly send to the girls. Since we would all be lounging on the couches watching the show, I thought that the perfect wording to describe the attire for the evening would be ‘Sofa Chic.’
Showcasing the 44-E napkins (my cute mother had these made for my roommate, Kathryn, and me for our apartment number!), bottles of Champagne and my favorite red & white wines: Coppola Director’s Cut Zinfandel and La Crema Chardonnay.
Early yesterday, I emailed all of the girls this cute Oscar Ballot I had downloaded off Twigs and Thistle’s website for them to fill out before arriving! It made the night so much fun for everyone to be involved and checking off which of their picks were correct. I had a prize bag waiting for the winner in the other room!
I was so impressed with the creativity and thought that the girls put into their appetizers. Here are a few showcased!…
‘Anorexic Ballerina’ Spinach appetizer for Black Swan
A mix of tea sandwiches (tomato, basil, and mozerella…peanut butter and jelly…cucumber galore!) for The Kings Speech
Red Velvet cupcakes for the red carpet
Seven Layer dip for Inception
Homemade Vanilla scones for The Kings Speech
Quesadillas for True Grit
My two appetizer contributions were Black and White cookies for Black Swan and Pigs in a Blanket for The Social Network’s Porcellian (PC) Club mascot.
The Oscar Party 2011 group (my cute roommate front and center!)
It was such a fun evening, and I cannot wait for our 2nd Annual Oscar Party! You’ll have to host one of your own next year!
