Although I love to start every morning in SoulCycle’s rooster classes {shout out to my go-to girl, Emily Turner!}, it’s always fun to mix up my workout when I’m done with a long day behind the desk. So to get ready for Valentine’s Day, a beach trip, and spring fever coming right around the riverbend, I decided to try three new workouts to surprise this Baker bod. Hola! My favorites to mix up your routine before the big VDay?
one of my favorite girls in fitness: claire gould
Located conveniently on 14th Street, Flex Studios provides its clients with a variety of classes focusing on core and body strength. And with their amazing class options {Pilates, Barre, and TRX} it’s hard to choose which one to pursue! I tried my first TRX class last night with one of my favorite fitness gurus named Claire Gould, and let me just tell you….I am STILL sore from that sweaty and intense sesh! Not only did she push us to our limits with the mega push-ups, burpees and lunges galore, but she gave us a powerful workout with our TRX, which uses your body weight to create resistance and increase balance, core strength and endurance. The best part about Claire’s class? She helps and encourages you the entire way to not only give up, but to give 110%! And for someone like me who was new to the whole TRX situation, which included my feet flying out of that darn thing, she was right there to help. Claire made me feel right at home and I cannot wait to kick it back over to Flex Studios!
one day…one day…
me + katie trying our best to fit in
My NYC “tribe” {aka friends in the city, which are more like family since the majority of our close ones live so far away} has always joked about facing the gun and trying an outrageous workout. So when I sent an email out asking the chicas who wanted to go pole dancing with me this past weekend, the responses were all positive and supportive of the idea! And when me + my girl, Katie, decided Body & Pole was the place to face our inner workout fears, I was honestly beyond nervous. I walked into their studio like a barefoot contessa {no shoes allowed} to find a bunch of poles in a room, eager women to start twerking away, and my personal favorite, the most sexual teacher I have ever encountered. The woman was downright living and from her intense moves {hands + tummy on the floor and all}, she made all of us open up and start shaking our hips like no one was watching. It was sick + such a great workout. And although I definitely had the whitest girl shake in the class, the moves we learned and the workout on the pole was awesome! Be prepared to sweat, spin and get on your hands + knees y’all…
my fellow nashville in nyc friend, annie mulgrew!
One of my favorite things to do over at Equinox is their rowing machine, so when I heard one of my fellow Nashville señoritas in NYC, Annie Mulgrew, started a new workout called CityRow, I couldn’t wait to dive on over there for my first class! En route, I realized this chica had totally left her sneaks at Casa Blanca {my flat}…oops! Desperately calling their studio to confirm if it was alright for me to indeed not where shoes on the rower, the front desk girl on the line immediately goes, “wait…what size are you?” When I told her my 5’9″ statuesque size, she responded, “I actually just got new sneaks and have only worn them once…just wear mine!” Knowing that I did have socks in my bag, I thought why not? I was already excited to get into this overly welcoming studio. And that was just the beginning of upbeat surprises! When you walk into CityRow, the smiles are wide, the gadgets are totally high tech {you check in on their front desk iPad}, and their rower machines are new + fresh + ready for you to kick em with cardio! This class gets your heart rate up fast and blasts fat quick with their weights and floor exercises…plus, I have to admit there were some pretty cute Romeo’s in my sesh too! Bonjour.
Whether you’re looking to mix up your usual workout this Spring or just want to try something totally out of the box, I highly suggest these three studios. They’re totally a flex + pole + row away from the perfect bod! Happy Weekend! B+H
