Maine-Ing About: Camden’s Character

Coast of Maine for Labor Day Weekend? This was a question my mom {aka “melbabe” to my friends} had asked me a few weeks ago. I thought…why not? And although I traded honking horns for bird chirps and concrete for picket fences over the holiday weekend, this chica couldn’t have been more ecstatic to be in a place of pure quiet surroundings + total family bliss. Hola!

A few gems I shot while wandering away in Camden, ME…

vibrant blue detail on this casa #’merica

a fresh batch of my all-time favorite stems

boats at ease. not a care in the world out here.

painting just because. summer still hanging on…

The trip had just begun: We had arrived in Portland, ME and then drove over to the town of Camden. After arriving into this quaint place, we decided to stay in town for the day before heading up the coast. Obviously I took advantage of the serenity Camden provided + got out my Nikon like a total tourist should do. My faves?

camden farmers’ market

Filled with all things fresh +local, Camden Farmers’ Market is a must {especially on Saturday mornings!}. As I walked around like a Camden-ite, I snapped away at the gems that most caught my eye. And oh, were all tastes unique, distinctive + totally ones to Maine about

fresh + happy yellow

mouth watering pies from i love pie

straight from the farm, husk style.

atlantic baking co artisan breads + sweets + pastries

appleton cremery

pick me, please.

After being surrounded by all things organic, I wandered around the town to explore what local talent Camden offered. My picks?

glendarragh lavender

Glendarragh Lavender is one of those stores where you walk in and immediately feel relaxed from the calming aromas racing at you. Their scent of choice? That would be lavender, of course. Providing all things blissful to wind down any kind of day, this store is totally one to hit up…even if you’re just craving a scrub-a-dub after an afternoon of exploring.

love the lavender detail in this bouquet

boynton-mckay food co. {longest line ever for breakfast, but oh so worth the wait!}

We hit this joint up bright ‘n early to find a line {longer than Pancake Pantry for those Nashville locals reading!}, so obviously it was a must we tried it too. Once we entered and found out their Blueberry Pancakes were the go-to everyone raved about, I pranced back into their kitchen to see these mamas being prepared myself. Bonjour! Yummy to my tummy.

i mean, how could you not go in?

and i just had to go back to see how they made their most popular dish: blueberry pancakes

jo ellen designs

Outside looking in, I was immediately drawn to Jo Ellen Designs with its Shabby Chic feel. And oh, was I not disappointed! This place is the go-to for any detail oriented diva who wants even more unique trinkets to accent their delicate collections at home.

perfect glasses to showcase a petit batch of roses

tea time + pearl accents

capping off the evening, vintage style

the maine dog

For the dog lover, there’s the cutest place down the street from Jo Ellen Designs called The Maine Dog. Filled with creative treats to active gear, this place is a home run if you’re trying to find the perfect gifts for your pup this fall!

my chocolate lab pups {mr. jack + miss jane} would be all over these

peace + love + ‘merica

all aboard, y’all

the waterfront restaurant

After all the exploring, this chica was hungry! But with the weather tentatively being pure thunderstorms the remainder of the weekend, I suggested for the fam to sit outside and enjoy the aquatic scenery. So we hit up The Waterfront Restaurant, and it was sea-fully satisfying with its fresh foods and atmosphere overlooking the boats. Our faves?

chilled gazpacho soup

roasted pear salad with grilled chicken

fried calamari + shrimp

lobster roll

brother worth dominating his lobster roll

river ducks ice cream

If you’re anyone who knows me well {at all}, it’s a fact ice cream is the key to my heart {my two friends Ben and Jerry always put a huge smile on my face}. So when my mom mentioned she had heard River Ducks Ice Cream was a must in town, I steered our tribe straight on over before we headed up the coast. And yes, this place is a total must!

green mint chip + oreos {although, the most popular flavor is peppermint stick}

town of camden

jaw-dropping sunflower. hola.

Whether you’re planning a trip up to the coast of Maine or just want to learn a little bit more about this pure gem of an area, check out B+H for the next three days to see the picks I’m still Maine-ing about to friends. And to set the tone for this week, it was a must to start off with Camden’s character. B+H
