It’s one thing to pursue a career to better yourself, but it’s a whole other thing to pursue a career to better others! That’s why I look up to and respect my dear friend, Megan Kelly, who has always had a true passion to help others and turned it into her career. Based in Boston, Megan noticed that children living in underdeveloped countries were having to pay for their uniforms on top of their education, which for many families is not an option. When she spoke of this to her friend, Jessica Roy, they decided to put both their passions to better others into a new project together: Tailored for Education.
Launched in 2011, Tailored for Education’s mission is to provide school uniforms to children in developing countries where one of the requirements for enrollment is having proper attire. Unfortunately, many families cannot afford the additional money needed to pay for uniforms, and the child is forced to put a halt to their education or even worse, go straight to work. Tailored for Education has partnered with established non-government organizations to achieve their mission. By working with these relationships, it has allowed them to safely distribute uniforms to families, schools and parishes. Their hope is that the money saved on uniforms will go toward providing food, clean water and/or shelter for the family.
