On the Upper East Side, Elio’s {Elio Guaitolini} has been satisfying their loyal customers of this “clubhouse” for decades. This dark wood {and handsome!} Italian restaurant serves to any type of crowd {all the way from a lonely man sitting with his newspaper to Martha Stewart with her large crew} and is known for their homemade pastas {my personal favorite is their linguine with the white clam sauce!} all packed into their tight tables and relaxed within their somewhat romantic decor. But, for over ten years they have a different crew that rolls through on Wednesday nights. One word calls all the boys in town over: meatballs.
Greeted with a simple “Bueno sera” from the staff, Elio’s meatball Wednesday nights has become so popular, especially for the finance guys, that they receive calls for groups that want an obscene amount of meatballs served upon their arrival {the managers said that guys even reserve up to 500 meatballs and have contests between tables on who can eat the most!}
I love going to this quaint spot, and recently visited one of my favorite boys there {Jerry} to give you readers a different view on their meatball night…in their kitchen! One of their chefs even showed me around this cozy place that smelt to die for with everything getting stirred mid-afternoon.
After getting a tour of how their lovin’ comes from their oven’, my mouth dropped…I had never seen so many trays of meatballs that are handmade in my life!
There’s a huge pot of their special sauce that they dunk meatballs in for guests to awe over with each bite {so juicy and flavorful!}. Before I left, the chefs let me munch in the kitchen on these babies that were to be served that night, and I have to admit…I can see why guys reserve so many! Once you start, you just can’t stop.
Book your resos for dinner tomorrow night…But why stop after the contests? Head over to one of my favorite places, Brandy’s Piano Bar, for some late night singing, laughing and talent of the best Broadway stars in the city! Ohhh…only in New York!
