From one Baker to another: Banana Nut Bread

One of my favorite memories growing up was baking in the kitchen with my mom…from whipping up easy things like Rice Krispie Treats to torching a delicate Creme Brûlée…you name it, and it was created. There is one recipe, however, that stands out from all of the others…this amazingly rich Banana Bread which became our go-to when Martha Stewart’s Baking Handbook came out in 2005. This recipe was mixed and baked for anything from bake sales to teacher gifts to simple thinking of you’s. Easy to make, exquisite, and total satisfaction!

The last time I was home, my mom and I made a double batch and I thought I would share our adapted recipe with you along with a printable label I created for you to make your own for gift-giving. This sweet bread is so delicious and costs about $4 a loaf to make. Since this recipe requires very ripe bananas, I thought posting it today would allow you to buy green bananas today and they would be perfect for weekend baking!

To give as gifts, you can wrap it in foil and adhere your label to it, but if you want to “Martha” it up, here’s what I do: Place loaf on antique gold cardstock in large cellophane bag. Twist tie with a metallic gold tie. Place label on and write your name in a burgundy or brown sharpie pen.  Tie with Antique Gold satin ribbon and Viola! You can also include a plastic knife with napkin on the side if you are gift-giving at the office.

Happy cooking! B+H
