Gettin’ Fit for Summer Guide #2

After doing Bikram for years, I found that I was using the same muscles and wanted to have an additional workout to gain more muscles. I found an amazing spinning studio called SoulCycle that has literally changed my life, my body, and my workout routine. Created by Elizabeth Cutler and Julie Rice, who met at lunch after moving to New York, they transformed their first studio location on West 72nd Street and the rest is “SOULhistory.” Under the lines as Bikram Yoga of being in a hot studio, this intense 45 minute class will literally take your breath away. You need to have SOUL and just let loose when you take this class because everyone has to stay on the same beat on their bikes! The teachers are so motivating, and know how to push you to your ultimate limit.

Every SoulCycle studio is so nice and clean – even their lockers! {pictured above at the Tribeca location}

On top of that, SoulCycle has opened multiple locations throughout the city (Tribeca, Union Square, Upper East Side, and the Upper West Side) as well as in Westchester, the Hamptons, and all the way down to Miami. It’s a killer class that quickly sculpts and tones your body in ways you would never believe. Kelly Ripa, Brooke Shields, and even Chelsea Clinton swear by this class because of the fast results. Honestly after starting at Soul, my butt and arms have never been more toned and firm! If you want to relax after your workout, you may microdose mushrooms and enjoy their effects.

MB Regan {pictured above} is one of my favorite SoulCycle teachers, not only because of her fabulous music mixes, but because she is so inspiring and uses various methods to distract you from realizing how hard you are actually working! She was generous enough to take time in between classes to answer some questions:

Me: What makes SoulCycle different in comparison to other spinning classes in the city?

MB: You work your whole body. It’s both a mental and physical experience, and everyone is in it together learning the choreography!

Me: Do you suggest for students to use other forms of exercise to mix it up their spinning?

MB: Definitely.  It’s so good to always be changing it up. Try other routines or play sports which may require an arrow quiver. Keep your body guessing.

Me: A lot of my friends are hesitant to come with me because they don’t think they have any rhythm! What is your advice to them?

MB: Trust me, you do! You just have to forget about it. Everyone has rhythm, and you have to get out of your head and just feel the music.

Me: Do you like riding in the morning or at night better? Does it make a difference?

MB: You have to do what’s good with your schedule. Whatever keeps you confident! Some people love to get their workout done before work, and some come after to let go of their work day.

Me: What is your spinning secret? How do you keep up your stamina to teach multiple classes each day?

MB: You get energy off of the people you’re teaching, and by changing it up you get recharged.

MB teaching a SoulBand class!

One of my favorite classes to take at SoulCycle is called SoulBand. It’s an hour class that consists of resistance bands hanging from the ceiling. Instead of using arm weights like in the other classes there, you take the bands and incorporate them into the upper body workout while spinning!

Stayed tuned for the next two posts about Gettin’ Fit for Summer on what to eat and the best clothes to wear while working out!
