Moments happen. People cross paths. But it’s the memorable people you meet in life that totally stick like glue. Or for what many call: a true or instant friendship. One of these moments happened to me two years ago {seems like yesterday!} when I was in London staying with my dear friend, Kristin. We were out at Sanderson Hotel’s Long Bar doing what 20-something girls do {sipping some harmless bubbly…} and suddenly came across two of the most down to earth people I’ve ever met. One of which happens to be a rising music star: Jordy Towers.
Our Long Bar soirée quickly went from classy champagne {I was wearing my favorite Loub’s, of course!} to a low-key concert we were invited to at an unknown location…which just so happened to be underneath the London bridge. Hola! This foursome group of new friends was in for it. So we danced, sang and cheered on Edward Sharpe like no other.

And the concert even continued to flow from the original venue to the graffiti-lined tunnel outside {click here for a preview of the after party}. That in itself was a night to remember. We were jammin’ to the wee hours like it was 3012. And I was totally inspired. But most especially by Jordy Towers. He got right up there next to Ed and sang like nobody was watching. Right then I knew: my new friend was totally one to watch. Hola!

Since that memorable evening, I’ve continued to see Jordy use his musical talent and become the fabulous artist he is today. While inspiring others with his sick vocals, killer dance moves {not to mention catchy lyrics}, Jordy invites all types {from fashionistas to hip-hop gods} into his world. Best part? I had the pleasure of interviewing Jordy for B+H!:
1. How did you first get involved with music?
I used to write songs and then record them on my cassette player. I would write to other artist’s instrumentals.
2. How does living in LA influence your work?
LA is a melting pot. Performers and artists from all over the world come here to make it, so when you’re raised here you’re exposed to all forms of genre and art.
3. What are some musicians you’re inspired by?
Bob Marley inspires me, Frank Sinatra, I like the Who. I was raised on a lot of hip hop – but early hip hop, the good stuff. Life inspires me more than other musicians though. Film inspires me as well.
4. What does making music mean to you?
It’s my therapy. It’s importance for me is off the charts. Without music, I don’t know where I’d be, or what I’d be doing.
5. Can you give us a preview on your next song release?
Basically – here’s the deal. I used to be signed to Interscope records, I was their golden boy for 2 seconds. They tried to change me as an artist and when it didn’t work, they dropped me. I’ve been dropped for a year, people stopped returning my calls. I moved to the back woods of Ohio and opened a bar with some family. I met some musicians out there in the woods and created a sound with them. We call ourselves SomeKindofWonderful and our first song is called Reverse. I know that’s a little more than you asked for, but that’s the story. Reverse is a story – but it’s told backwards. It starts with the end, and goes back to the beginning. It’s kinda of the “Memento” of songs. Sound wise it’s a throw back to that good old soul rock music that will never die.
