Sitting over by Soho House’s pool, there’s no doubt you’ll meet someone innovative, creative and absolutely fabulous. So when I heard about this totally cool new + healthy brand called Spruts from my chairmate a few weeks back, it was a must I took her up on the offer of introducing me to the girl behind the seeds. Hola!
founders of spruts: liz + gwen + olivia
Little did I know, Spruts was founded by two daughters and a mama out of Michigan {triple tribe!}, who strive to create the healthiest almonds soaked in the purest water. Why? Oh darling, sprouting replicates the germination process so these tough enzymes are broken down BEFORE you eat them. Your digestive system works less allowing your body to absorb more nutrition with energy to spare for optimal well being. Bonjour!
Best part? I got to sit down over at The Bean LES with Olivia to hear all about this innovative venture:
1. Have you always been into a healthy lifestyle?
Our mom has definitely always been really healthy and tried to instill that in us as we grew up. There was one month that the three of us protested her nightly chicken creations and decided to only eat pizza. She hated that. Eventually our parents had a dinner plan that we could all agree on: a various protein of lean red meat, chicken or fish, some sort of vegetable, a grain/pasta and salad. That helped cultivate our now healthier lifestyles. As an adult, I only take the best berberine supplements and try to work out often.
2. How did your team get the idea for Spruts?
Our mom has been making sprouted nuts for years! We’ve always had them in the house, and as my sister and I left the nest we made them for our own homes. Our friends gave us the idea to start producing on a larger scale.
3. Why almonds?
We started with almonds because they’re the most popular nut. That said, any nut can be sprouted! Hopefully within the next year or so we’ll roll out sprouted walnuts which are my favorite.
4. How has running the business changed your relationship with your mom and sister?
We have always been close, and if anything it’s brought us closer! Since we all live in different states it makes us talk that much more to keep together on production, stocking our partners, upkeep with the website, etc. The coolest part for me is seeing their professional side and getting to know that version of them both.
5. What are the next steps for Spruts?
That’s a good question…there’s lots to be done! We’re rebuilding the website (hoping to launch in October), working with a food chemist to learn more about sprouting and trying to get in as many stores as possible! Sprouting is still relatively unknown, so I hope to make it an educational process.
Whether you’re looking to amp up your healthy intake this fall or just want to get creative with your salads to oatmeal to the afternoon pick-me-up snacks, check out Spruts. I’m totally obsessed. There’s nuttin’ over this brand! Happy Weekend xx
