I’m always on the hunt to find new boutique-like restaurants filled with devoted locals + the owner present sharing the love of what their place is all about, and how it’s different from other competitors. So when I heard about a new addition to the up + coming 8th street called La Panineria, it was a must for me to go and check out not only if the paninos lived up to expectation, but to see if there was indeed a passionate owner willing to share his story. And let me just tell you, this girl was beyond pleased on all subjects. Hola!
When new places open, I always like to ask the chef or owner to make me what they think symbolizes what they house. And in this case, their amazing owner Mario decided to build a cheesed up prosciutto dream topped with my favorite, black truffle oil. I was almost embarrassed with my reaction noises biting into this panini. Um…that good!
Little did I know, Mario opened up La Panineria last month after sitting on the Hudson actually having a panini, and thinking why can’t I create the go-to spot for paninis in the village? And from there, this Naples born + bred Italian made his dream into a delicious reality. Using all of the Italia secrets + ingredients, of course. When I was in the shop snapping photos, neighbors eating inside kept raving to me that this is the new best sandwich shop in Greenwich Village. And I have to admit, they were incredibly on point.
Whether you’re looking for a great new spot to grab lunch and chat with other locals who already come daily, or just want to truly taste one of Italy’s most popular dishes without the airline fee, check out La Panineria. It truly houses Italia in each bite!
