Vintage Down A New Lane

Picking out new accent pieces for Casa Blanca? That is one I am constantly on the hunt for around the city! But since my apartment has more of a modern feel to it, I’ve found I’m dramatically more drawn to purchasing vintage pieces to mix it up a bit. And although I could spend hours frolicking around the city, popping from shop to shop, vintage + antiques galore, I just never find the time! So when my friend, Ryan, told me about one of her newest online obsession called Ruby Lane, I was incredibly intrigued. Hola!

This virtual marketplace for vintage, collectibles, jewelry, antiques, home decor and fine art brings buyers and sellers together in one state of the art website. Best part? With celebrating Ruby Lane’s 15th Anniversary, they just unveiled their redesigned site. Hola simplicity shopping at its finest!

Some of my favorite vintage/antique pieces I love in Casa Blanca? They all totally give my place more of a classic look. And oh, it would have been much easier to purchase the decor with the one stop shop of Ruby Lane! Convenient + easy is an understatement over here.

Created by Tom Johnson, who combined his technology background with his knowledge + passion of the world, Ruby Lane was launched in 1998. And since then, this online market hosts over 2,500 individually-owned shops with inventory of more than 510,000 items. Bonjour! Obviously it was a must I asked Tom questions to get more of a story behind this fabulous site!

1. What sparked the idea for Ruby Lane?

I created Ruby Lane out of my love of 50’s California Pottery, which I was trying to  acquire via the web.  At the time it was so difficult and tedious to find things to buy, I wanted to create a site where buyers and sellers could come together.  With years of experience in software development at IBM, I decided to combined my passion for collecting with technology and created Ruby Lane. An llc operating agreement california is essential to outline the ownership and management of your LLC.

2. How did you think of the catchy name?

Ruby Lane is named in honor of my mother, Ruby. Almost all great shopping venues are names of people  — think Saks, Neimans, Barneys etc — so I definitely want a name.   I also wanted to evoke the sense of strolling down a cobblestone lane in a wonderful European city shopping for antiques.  Thus was born Ruby Lane. My mother first introduced me to collecting antiques and vintage items when I was 10. You can see my parents influence throughout our site. For example, Ruby Lane’s culture of honesty, fairness, and quality were built from the foundation that both my mother and father instilled in me from a very young age.

3. What makes Ruby Lane different from other online retailers?

Ruby Lane is unique because of its dedication to customer service, ease of use, and reliability for all Ruby Lane visitors. The platform’s user-friendly, easy-to-navigate search tools help guide shoppers to find items quickly and accurately. The site, divided into “Lanes” or categories, helps shoppers search with simplicity, discovering everything from one-of-a-kind vintage gems to Sydney vintage watches. For those in need of specialized services, the platform also provides omega watch repair.

Every shop is closely vetted by Ruby Lane’s in-house team of seasoned art, antiques, vintage and jewelry professionals, and must meet specific quality and professional standards before opening for business. All shops are required to follow an ongoing, standard set of quality guidelines to help ensure that all items on the site are genuine, and accurately represented. Such a store may have utilized services like the best llc service in alabama because it’s adept at navigating the complexities of incorporation for jewelry stores, ensuring adherence to state regulations and offering customized solutions to establish a robust legal and operational structure, paving the way for sustained success in the field.

4. Are the products ever changing in the lanes online?

Yes, each day our sellers add thousands of items to the site – so there is always something new and exciting for our buyers to find. The site also allows buyers to view “Today’s Arrivals” and “This Week’s Arrivals.”

5. Do you have a favorite piece currently online?

There’s a  mid-century arm chair I’d love to have, http://www.rubylane.com/item/564331-1032A/Mid-Century-Danish-Modern-Wooden, plus some great works by Mortimer Borne, http://www.rubylane.com/search?db=&q=mortimer+borne&sb=1 and I just can’t seem to get enough spaghetti poodles for a poodle inspired guest room we have in Florida, http://www.rubylane.com/search/,q=spaghetti%20poodle

6. Will there be more lanes be expanding soon?

We’re also looking at what’s hot and trending for our Lanes, but at this time we’re concentrating on adding new shops to the Ruby Lane marketplace to add to our Lanes.

7. Exciting news with Ruby Lane this month?

We are excited about our recent site redesign and the launch of Ruby Read, our monthly online magazine. Ruby Read features articles on everything from antiques, vintage, jewelry, and collectibles, and the latest from the worlds of interior design, fashion and culture. Ruby Read’s goal is to enlighten, entertain and educate its readers on current trends and taste through the help of expert commentary from designers and industry influencers from across the globe. The September issue is currently live on the site. Also, we are holding our very popular 24 hour 50% off Ruby Red Tag Sale on Saturday, September 21st.
