From the moment my friend Tony Monte pitched a TV project he was working on to me last year, I knew the concept he described of combining celebrities, culture and food into one show was going to be an immediate hit. Not only is the show upbeat, informative and genuinely engaging, but it’s an incredible way to learn more about restaurants in and near NYC! Readers, let me introduce you to the “tastiest” show on air: Taste Makers.
Lisa Mateo, Taste Maker’s host, setting the tone before the ‘action’!
Produced by Tony Monte and directed by Bret Koehler and Melinda Martinez, Taste Makers is a TV show {on PIX 11, Saturdays at 630pm EST} where its host, Lisa Mateo, not only takes you behind the scenes with a different celebrity each episode featuring their favorite restaurant, but even back into the kitchen to feature that celebrity’s favorite dish. Plus, you get the recipe on their website after each episode! Hola.
Taste Maker’s episode: Jerry Springer at Patsy’s Italian Restaurant
I met up with the Taste Makers team while they were filming at Cookshop restaurant in Chelsea. Sandra Bernhard had chosen this delicious spot for her episode, and it was without a doubt the coolest experience to watch! Not only just being in the atmosphere of TV production, but to watch Lisa interact with Sandra in general on camera and hear about why Sandra had chosen this hip place was absolutely fabulous! Sandra’s fave on the menu? Fish tacos!
Lisa Mateo + Me at Cookshop
Lisa took the camera team back into Cookshop’s kitchen to show how to make Sandra’s featured dish, fish tacos {click here for the recipe!}. And while we were all back there, Danny Aiello had received word the team was at the restaurant! While filming, Danny surprised Lisa in the kitchen {watch here!}, and stayed to mingle with the team. My favorite part about meeting this talented man? He said to me, “You are just beautfiul! Beautiful!” Hola.
Taste Maker’s episode: Jennifer Eposito at Sauce Restaurant
All in all, Taste Makers has flat got it down. Not only does this TV show attract major foodies {like myself!} and celebrities with a passion to show where they genuinely love to munch, but it also allows viewers to have cool access into these restaurants and take away recipes to make at their own casa!
