We all know and look up to Bill Cunningham to be the fashion god behind the camera. The one who appreciates all women who have style {no matter what the size!} and the one who immediately finds beauty in a fashion piece that the regular fashionista may overlook. Bill Cunningham’s taste is impeccable, which is why I’ve looked up to him for years and anxiously wait each week to read the New York Times Sunday Styles section!
Last year’s Bill Cunningham New York documentary was a huge hit {click here to read our post!} where we all got to dive in and get a better sense of who the true person is behind the camera lens! But this year, we get to enter yet another door…
Before Bill Cunningham was snapping away and strolling down the streets of NYC on his bike {and wearing his blue jacket, of course!}, he was a fabulous milliner. Celebs {even Marilyn Monroe!} would stop into his place at Carnegie Hall, and pick up a glamourous toppers to flaunt!
But with it being sixty years after he made his last hat, it’s time to celebrate. A friend of Cunningham’s, Alison Shacter, had an aunt who collected the hats and has finally decided to say “adios amego!” to her collection of twenty-three hats made by the one and only, Bill Cunningham.
Best part? The collection of these hats will be sold tomorrow on 1stdibs!
As seen with Bill Cunningham, you never know where your career will lead, but as long as you maintain that love and passion for what you do anything is possible. He even went from making hats to taking snaps! It’s a sale you don’t want to miss…
