Let’s Get Real…Panini Style!

Call me crazy…but I’ve always thought that the correct way to make a panini was to get some bread, throw on a weird combination of cheeses, veggies and possibly a meat into the mix, put it into a presser and smash it all together. And voila! There’s your panini. Oh boy, was I mistaken!

While walking through the heart of Soho towards the stone-filled streets of TriBeCa, I was curious when I saw a sign that read: Salumè: Real Italian Panini. Obviously I went inside…spontaneous exploring is one thing I do best!

While inside the shop, I quickly became friends with Salumè’s manager, Juan, and a talented cook named Heber brewing sandwiches upfront! They smelled my desire to learn about what makes this place different than other panini joints in town, and invited me to watch how to make a panini like they do in Milano. Hola!

Buon Italia fresh meats

Steps to make a real Italian panini?:

Toast the bread slices

Pour on the olive oil

Place the tomatoes

Top it with fresh meats and mozzarella

Add on ground pepper

Slice it!

The other customers may have been a bit alarmed to my reaction as I took my first bites into this phenomenal Italian piece of heaven…it was SO yummy! When you combine the famous Eli’s bread, Buon Italia’s meats, melted mozzarella and add tomatoes into the mix with a crispy crunch as you bite…well, how couldn’t it be amazing?!

I had the best time playing “Italian” for the afternoon at Salumè! This place is quaint. It’s welcoming. And it’s where you go to get a real Italian panini in town!
