Simplicity Behind The City

Pushing your pedal 100 mph each week? Barely taking time to rest on the weekends with bunches of birthday parties and the upbeat night scene that’s offered in the city? It’s easy to get caught up in this fast paced lifestyle! But every once in awhile, it’s important to take a moment for yourself. So that’s exactly what I did the other day! I started walking with no destination in mind, and found myself in Washington Square Park…

There were families, friends, individuals, students…even dogs frolicking around the place! Doing their own thing and enjoying the nice day. And for a city that never sleeps, it was amazing to be in such a quiet and beautiful place!

I found myself sitting on a bench, taking in the scenery and listening to the sounds around me {I totally found my inner nerd!}. Reading there was so relaxing…except for the musicians in the background and chess players barking at each other!

This rare encounter with the city allowed me to truly enjoy the simplistic beauty New York has to offer. I guess you really do have to go somewhere new and quiet to find it!

I chatted with the chess players and became intrigued by their competitive game! They suggested that I walk down Thompson Street to a place that has been there for forty years to learn more. Low and behold, I found myself inside the shop later that day {now that was something I never expected waking up that morning!}. The Chess Shop is open 24 hours and offers lessons to all. Best part? It’s only $5 to play. Hola!

Walking back from this relaxing afternoon, I realized that although there is beauty in the building lights and the eclectic people in New York, the real beauty lies behind the simplistic opportunities this city offers. And that is the beauty you really have to open your eyes to see. Happy Wednesday! B+H
