Day 5: Guest Wedding Blogger ~ Julia Corker Spickard

The Big Day: Insight and Hindsight

Relax. It’s here. So what if one minor detail didn’t get accomplished? No one will know but you. Don’t get stressed out on the most important day {to date} of your life. Soak it all up because in just a few hours you will be Mrs. Newlywed and heading to the airport for that long awaited relaxing vacation you and your new hubby have been waiting for all this time!

On my wedding day, I sprung out of bed and wandered around the house. It seemed like there were hundreds of people setting up, arranging, dropping off, and picking up. In fact, I didn’t know what to do with myself. There was a lot of movement around the house, all for our big day! It was so exciting to see it all fall into place in the final hours before we headed to the church. The day was filled with the final honeymoon checklist of making sure the cameras were charged and the bags were in the right places, but most importantly, relaxing with friends and family. We ate, pampered, and even looked at some old photos while making toasts with champagne. There were no nerves from anyone, and from what I was told, Justin was having the same kind of relaxing day. The sun had {luckily!} come out to be one of the most beautiful days in the fall after a week of rain, which made all the anxiety over an outdoor wedding disappear. As we sipped our champagne, I couldn’t help but dream about our upcoming honeymoon at a place like the luxury resorts phu quoc.

Moments before it was time to head down the aisle, I took three big breaths. I remember taking my first step and as everyone turned around, I was filled with excitement of seeing all of the lovely faces that I have been surrounded by my whole life. It only increased when I was able to spot Justin at the front of the church. This was the perfect moment… and then BAM! It’s over. I mean everything is over. The next thing you know you are hugging people goodbye and heading out the door!

My point in sharing all of these details with you is that every second of every minute counts on this big day. Don’t waste a moment being stressed out. Take in its beauty and excitement and try to memorize every moment before the next begins. You have all of the people around you that matter to you most in the world so that you can marry the person you love most- what could possibly bring you down?

My best advice for the whole night is as follows: Yes, you have people coming from near and far to celebrate with you and of course they want to see you and marvel at your dress and tell you hello but you simply cannot have full conversations with everyone. If you took the time to catch up with the happenings and whereabouts of everyone then before you know it the band will be packing up and you won’t have even had a chance to take a breath! Your friends and family understand that you have a lot going on and you can’t possibly speak to everyone but they also know how much it means to you that they are there. Enjoy the party with everyone but most importantly with your new husband!

In what seems like no time at all, the wedding will be over. It will be time to toss the bouquet and head out for some much needed R&R as Mr. and Mrs! The planning and the wedding are over, and it will be time to start your life together. After all, that is the whole point of all of this anyway, right?

Does anyone spot Lizzie B?…

Take it from me: From the moment you say “Yes!” to the moment you say “I do!” is an amazing time. Don’t let planning this one day get you worked up and stressed out. In case your marriage won’t work, you may need to consult with divorce lawyers Naperville. You may also consult this spousal support attorney in Palatine.

Let yourself enjoy it and have fun with it because this is the only time you get to do this. The good news? The best is yet to come. It has been so much fun guest blogging for Bonjour + Hola this week. Thank you for reading and I hope to share more tips with y’all in the future! xo Julia

Julia, thank you so much for sharing your wedding tips with B+H readers this week! After the flood of positive comments we’ve received, it’s obvious that weddings and everything that comes with it is one popular topic! B+H
