5, 6, 7, 8 … Bend and stretch… Side to side… Wow, I didn’t realize what I was getting into when I signed up for my first Pure Barre class! I had been hearing rumblings on the street about this amazing workout that tones your arms, slims your thighs, and flattens your abs after only ten classes was officially opening up it’s first studio on the Upper West Side in Manhattan. Pure Barre NYC owners, Leslie Coakley and Kailtin Vandura, finally did last week!
Being a loyal SoulCycle and Bikram Yoga devotee, I decided to take a chance and see what the hype was all about…boy, was I incredibly surprised how sore I was the next day. And I thought this bod was in decent shape!
Pure Barre was founded and created by Carrie Rezabek in 2001 when she opened up her first studio in the basement of an office building in Birmingham, MI. After transforming many bodies, the word spread like wildfire and Pure Barre now has multiple locations nationwide. Click here to see where the closest one is to you!
After taking my first Pure Barre class in NYC, I was so curious to hear more about it! So, I contacted an owner of the studio, Leslie Coakley, and asked her to share with Bonjour + Hola readers about her experience with Pure Barre and what to expect once you walk through their doors.
Interview with Leslie Coakley, co-owner of Pure Barre NYC:
How did you get into Pure Barre?: I started taking class as a client in March of 2009 in Nashville, TN and was immediately hooked. The following September I was trained to be an instructor in the two Nashville studios and realized that this technique was quickly changing other woman’s bodies like it had changed mine. I made the decision after two years of teaching I wanted to be a bigger part of this company and help expand the technique, and here we are!
How many times a week would suggest doing it?: I would suggest taking class three times a week to maximize your results.
What are the benefits?: The great thing about the Pure Barre technique is its unique ability to create the long, lean muscles, all while avoiding any impact on your joints. In class you will work each muscle group to fatigue and then immediately follow with a stretch which allows the lengthening of the muscles.
Do you suggest to only do Pure Barre? Or is it smart to incorporate other types of workouts?: Women see results by just doing Pure Barre alone, while others still occasionally include cardio to change it up a bit. It is not necessary to incorporate any other workout. Pure Barre should do the trick, and you will see results as quickly as ten classes.
What are you supposed to wear in class? Should you expect to sweat a lot?: You should come to class wearing pants, and socks. The purpose of the long pants and socks is to keep your muscles warm, which helps achieve the best results during the stretching in class.
Has it been popular with New Yorkers so far? We have been excited with the results of our first week open. Luckily, Pure Barre has started to gain nationwide recognition which has brought in many New Yorkers who originally started with Pure Barre in their own home town.
Any upcoming events or deals at Pure Barre? We are currently running a new client special, which allows for 30 days of UNLIMITED classes for $150.00 (a savings of $225). Also, starting on October 31st we will be running another special- bring a friend to class and receive a free pair of socks!
Pure Barre is an amazing way to slim down for the holiday season or to compliment your consistent cardio routine. After hearing many success stories from regular students of Pure Barre, one of my good friends from Nashville has graciously agreed to share her before and after experience with you. Look for it tomorrow, Bonjour + Hola readers! It’s an amazing story and the transformation of her body through Pure Barre is unbelievable.
