When I think of someone who is classic, detailed-oriented, chic, and well-rounded, one name immediately comes to mind…Kate Spade New York. This creative company has taken not only the fashion industry by storm, but the entertaining, lifestyle, and home decor industries as well.
Recently, I heard through the grapevine that a Kate Spade New York representative would be speaking at House Beautiful’s Kitchen of the Year at Rockefeller Center…obviously I had to sharpie that into my Kate Spade day planner! I was lucky enough to have a break in between my NYU classes to pop up and see the segment about entertaining.

It was such a phenomenal experience to watch the Senior Director of Creative Services at Kate Spade, Theresa Canning Zast, present and take in creative tips on ways to throw a fabulous and stress-free summer party.
Here are some of Kate Spade New York’s party tips:
-Have a signature cocktail (in this case, she decided to make a lemon drop cocktail!)…Pour a lot of vodka into an iced cup, then the lemon juice (pre-squeeze the lemons!), add a garnish and swivel sticks with a paper straw from Paper Presentation to make it look fun and effortless!
-Table Setting: Grab some polka dot coasters, personalized napkins, and place simple white hydrangea flowers in polka dot vases (strategically place them on the table…my favorite is at the head of each place setting!)

-If you don’t have China to make the setting more elaborate, then start with a white plate and then add on different designed plates on top to accent the table perfectly…the tidbit plates are so adorable too!
-Jazz up your table with white linen napkins to make it simple and luxurious (don’t forget to have them cleaned, starched, and pressed beforehand!) and wrapping them with a black and white polka dot ribbon…a quick knot is all that’s needed! Knowing when to replace the gutters can also help.
-End the evening with Black & White cookies (fitting for the main two colors of New York fashionistas!)
-Make the night more fun by placing a bingo board on each plate. If your dinner takes a bit longer than expected to prepare, it will keep your guests entertained, while if you need hot water you need to learn the signs of bad hot water heater so you can fix it right away.
-Have a side table stocked with cocktail essentials next to the main dining table for drinks to be easily accessible and organized!
